Wouldn’t it be nice to simply slide on your favorite pair of sandals every day without a second thought? You can if you are going to be hanging around your home or if you are going to be around people you are familiar with. However, if you are planning on wearing your sandals in public, to work or any kind of event, you should consider more than just the kind of sandal you are going to wear. Sandals are becoming more and more acceptable to wear just about anywhere, yet there is actually some sandal etiquette that needs to be followed for flawless results.
Depending on the kind of event you are going to, not all sandals work for every occasion. If you are going to work, you simply can’t wear the flip flops you slide on to wear around the house on the weekend! If you are going to wear sandals to a party, work or wedding, make sure that they are elegant and classy enough. It is even possible for you to take a basic pair of sandals and add a bit of color or rhinestones to them. Make sure that the sandal is as formal as the occasion.
Never wear ill-fitting sandals outside of your house. It doesn’t matter how much you love them or how good they make you feel. Feet that hang over any part of a sandal are simply unattractive. Sandals can be too narrow and the pinky toe doesn’t quite fit on the sole. Other times the sandal straps don’t have enough give and the skin bulges around or “cupcakes” over them. These kinds of poor fits are not only unattractive, but they can also lead to safety issues.
Are your feet in good condition for sandals? If you have any yellow spots that might be seen when you are wearing sandals, you really should take care of them. Yellow, calloused skin is just not something people want to see on exposed feet. Pumice stone is wonderful for working down those callous spots and the yellow should disappear with them. If you heels are cracked, work on getting them moisturized and presentable for a public showing. Also, keep your toenails trimmed and neat. You don’t have to keep them polished. Just keep them even and clean. A professional pedicure is not necessary unless you feel that your feet could really benefit from a professional’s touch.
Feet are not immune from hair growth. Trim any foot hair or simply shave it off altogether. Men should take this seriously if they are wearing sandals in public, too. It doesn’t retract from a guy’s manhood if he removes the hair from his feet as a courtesy to those who will be seeing them in sandals.
While it may not be necessary to mention to some, there are a few others who desperately need to be told not to wear socks or pantyhose with sandals. Never do it. It is never acceptable. If your feet are cold, you shouldn’t be wearing sandals. If your feet are unsightly, you shouldn’t be wearing sandals. Neither socks nor pantyhose are ever a good look with sandals.
Finally, if you have an issue with your feet where you need to itch, don’t wear sandals. Wear shoes that don’t irritate the itch and use anti-itching powder or cream to prevent additional itching.
Sandals are attractive and comfortable when worn under the right circumstances. Keep your feet clean and attractive and you can enjoy wearing your sandals wherever you want to all summer long.
